Course Overview:- It Train individuals to provide essential healthcare and personal support to patients, such as the elderly, disabled, or those recovering from illness, within their own homes. Students interested in supporting patients in home or clinical settings can also explore the General Duty Assistant Course and nursing assistant course for additional hands-on training in patient care.
Course Responsibilities:-
Personal care and daily living
- Assist with personal hygiene, including bathing and grooming.
- Help with dressing and undressing.
- Support patients with eating and drinking, and assist with maintaining normal elimination patterns.
- Help patients with mobility and positioning to prevent complications.
Health monitoring and reporting
- Monitor and report any changes in the patient's health status to healthcare professionals or supervisors.
- Measure and record vital signs, as required.
- Communicate with patients, families, and other caregivers.
Household and safety tasks
- Provide light housekeeping duties, such as cleaning and laundry.
- Prepare meals and assist with nutrition and hydration needs.
- Ensure a safe and healthy environment for the patient.
- Implement infection control measures and proper biomedical waste disposal.
- Demonstrate proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Monitoring and reporting skills are also emphasized in the phlebotomy technician course, which teaches clinical sample handling and patient observation.
Patient support and communication
- Provide companionship and emotional support.
- Assist patients with diverse needs, such as those who are immobile or have chronic illnesses.
- Maintain professional and respectful conduct, especially when interacting with patients and their families

- Personal Care: Assisting with bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Mobility Assistance: Providing safe transfers and helping with ambulation using assistive devices.
- Nutrition and Hydration: Assisting with feeding, preparing meals, and understanding dietary needs.
- Medication Assistance: Reminding clients to take their prescribed medications and recognizing potential issues.
- Elimination Assistance: Assisting with the use of equipment like bedpans and adult diapers, and monitoring output.
Essential knowledge and procedures
- Anatomy and Physiology: Basic understanding of body systems, structures, and functions. Students seeking more laboratory and diagnostic exposure may consider the medical lab technician course.
- Infection Control: Implementing procedures to prevent the spread of infection and using personal protective equipment.
- Safety and Emergency Care: Home safety checks, disaster preparedness, and basic first aid and life support skills.
- Vital Signs: Accurately monitoring and recording temperature, pulse, respiration, and other vital signs.
- Medical Terminology: Familiarity with common medical terms related to patient care.

- Communication: Developing effective communication with clients, families, and other healthcare professionals, including active listening and empathy.
- Documentation: Learning to accurately record observations and report on the client's status and care provided.
