Course Overview

The General Duty Assistant (GDA) is a healthcare support professional who provides basic patient care and assists doctors and nurses in a variety of settings like hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes. Their duties include helping with daily activities like bathing and dressing, monitoring vital signs, assisting with patient movement, and ensuring patient comfort and safety.

  4. Attend Orientation – Classes begin as per your selected learning mode.

Course Responsibilities

Patient Care and Assistance

  • Daily care: Assist patients with daily activities like bathing, grooming, and dressing.
  • Mobility: Help with patient handling, lifting, and transferring from beds to chairs or stretchers.
  • Feeding: Assist with providing food and ensuring patients maintain proper nutrition and hydration.
  • Environment: Help prepare and maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable patient unit.

Health Monitoring and Procedures

  • Vital signs: Monitor and record basic patient parameters like temperature, blood pressure, and pulse.
  • Basic procedures: Learn to assist with procedures such as phlebotomy, IV therapy, and wound dressing. Students interested in blood collection procedures can also enroll in our Phlebotomy Technician Course.
  • Patient samples: Transport patient samples, documents, and other materials to different hospital departments.

Safety and Infection Control

  • Infection control: Implement infection control measures and apply personal protective equipment.
  • Biomedical waste: Dispose of biomedical waste according to standard protocols.
  • Patient safety: Ensure patient safety during procedures and in their living environment.

Teamwork and Communication

  • Support healthcare team: Work alongside nurses, doctors, and other healthcare providers, carrying out their instructions.
  • Patient communication: Communicate effectively with patients to provide care and address their needs.
  • Respond to calls: Respond to patient calls and requests promptly.
