Course Overview:
It covers irrigation systems as part of its curriculum. The key skills for a Micro Irrigation Technician include water management, system troubleshooting, and using modern technology for installation and maintenance.
Course Responsibilities:-
Design and implementation
- Design micro-irrigation systems, including drip and sprinkler systems.
- Select and procure the necessary components and materials.
- Install the complete system on the farm.
- Test the system after installation to ensure it is error-free.
- Commission the system to start its operation.
Operations and maintenance
- Train farmers on how to operate and maintain the system correctly.
- Troubleshoot and repair problems that arise with the irrigation system.
- Perform routine maintenance to ensure the system is functioning efficiently.
- Ensure an uninterrupted and optimal water supply to the crops.
Safety and support
- Maintain health and safety standards at the workplace.
- Understand and follow procedures for handling potential hazards, such as chemicals and equipment.
- Provide basic first aid and emergency response when necessary
Course Curriculum Components:
Micro-irrigation system installation
- Component identification: Learn to identify and understand the function of various components like filters, valves, emitters (drip and sprinkler), pipes, and control units.
- Head unit installation: Focus on the installation of the pump and filtration systems to ensure correct water pressure and filtration.
- Pipe network layout: Learn the correct procedure for laying out and connecting main and sub-main pipes.
- Emission devices: Study the installation of emitters and sprinklers.
- Fertigation system: Understand how to integrate fertilizer application into the irrigation process for efficient nutrient delivery.
System testing and maintenance
- Functional testing: Learn to test the system's performance after installation.
- Troubleshooting: Develop skills to identify and fix problems that arise during testing.
- Maintenance: Understand the scheduled maintenance required for a micro-irrigation system.
- Resource optimization: Learn to optimize the usage of water, electricity, and other materials.

- Soil and water management: Includes soil sample collection, soil testing for nutrients, and measuring soil moisture, field capacity, and infiltration rate.
- Crop and farm management: Covers topics like identifying crops, fertilizers, and weeds, seed germination testing, and yield estimation.
- Farm machinery and tools: Learn to use and maintain tillage implements, and the handling of farm machinery and equipment.
