Course Overview:
Physician Assistant is a 1-year specialized educational program in medical scribing specialty, designed for individuals keen to work closely with physicians and help them with proper medical documentation. The topics included in this program are Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems, various medical documentation techniques, and different medical terminologies. It also helps students gain practical experience in documenting medical histories, physician-patient interactions, etc.
Course Responsibilities:-
- Conducting physical exams and assessing patient conditions.
- Taking patient medical histories.
- Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, scans, and X-rays.
- Diagnosing illnesses, injuries, and health conditions.
- Prescribing treatments and medications under physician supervision.
- Assisting in surgical procedures and providing support to surgical staff.
- Setting fractures and stitching wounds.

- Foundational Medical Sciences:-
- Human Anatomy & Physiology: The study of the structure and functions of the human body.
- Biochemistry: Focuses on the chemical processes in living organisms and analysis of biological fluids.
- Microbiology & Pathology: Understanding microorganisms, the immune system, and the causes and effects of diseases.
- Pharmacology: The study of medicines, their effects, classifications, and principles of administration.
- Core Clinical Knowledge & Skills:-
- Clinical Medicine & Diagnosis: Learning to take patient histories, perform physical examinations, delineate problems, and interpret diagnostic results.
- Diagnostic Procedures: Training in common laboratory, radiologic (X-rays), and cardiographic (ECG) procedures.
- Emergency & First Aid: Essential life support techniques and management of medical and trauma emergencies.
- Surgical Principles: Concepts of surgical processes, basic surgical procedures, and an anesthetic techniques.
- Patient Care & Ethics: Developing effective communication skills, understanding patient safety, medical ethics, and legal responsibilities.
- Specialized & Practical Training:-
- Specialty Medicine: Exposure to various medical fields such as Pediatrics, Geriatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Cardiology, Neurology, and Gastroenterology.
- Practical/Hands-on Training: Hands-on experience in clinics, hospitals, and diagnostic centers to apply theoretical knowledge.
- Clinical Rotations/Internship: A mandatory period of supervised practical training in real-world healthcare settings (often the final year/semester).
- Job opportunities: Physician Assistants include roles in hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic centers, assisting doctors with patient diagnosis, treatment, and administrative tasks. Common positions are Physician Assistant, Surgical Assistant, Medical Officer, and Clinical Assistant.
