Course Overview:
An experienced Anesthesia Technician with a demonstrated track record of providing safe and efficient patient care in the Medical field. Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team setting to ensure successful patient outcomes.
Course Responsibilities:-
Equipment and supplies management
- Prepare, check, and maintain anesthesia machines, monitoring devices, and other related equipment before, during, and after procedures.
- Ensure all equipment is functioning correctly and perform basic troubleshooting.
- Order, stock, and manage anesthesia supplies, medications, and gases.
- Clean and sterilize equipment and instruments after use.
Patient care and monitoring
- Assist the anesthesiologist with administering anesthesia and related tasks.
- Monitor and record patient vital signs during a procedure.
- Help position patients to prevent injury and ensure comfort.
- Transport patients to and from the operating and recovery rooms.
- Provide basic life support and airway management if needed.
- Communicate with patients, explain procedures, and review their medical history.
Safety and emergency support
- Maintain patient safety and ensure compliance with all protocols and infection control measures.
- Respond to and assist with anesthesia-related emergencies.
- Maintain accurate records of procedures, inventory, and equipment maintenance.
Course Curriculum Components:
Foundational Sciences :
- Human Anatomy & Physiology: Detailed study of body systems, with a focus on the respiratory, cardiovascular, and nervous systems, relevant to anesthesia.
- Pharmacology: Principles of drug administration and the specific anesthetic agents, muscle relaxants, IV fluids, blood products, and emergency drugs used in anesthesia.
- Pathology & Microbiology: Basics of disease processes, common pathogens, infection control, and aseptic techniques to maintain a sterile environment.
- Biochemistry: Introduction to the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, and common biochemical examinations.
Core Anesthesia & OT Principles :
- Introduction to Anesthesia: Definition, history, principles, and different types of anesthesia (general, local, regional).
- Anesthesia Equipment & Technology: Operation, maintenance, and safety checks of anesthesia machines, ventilators, vaporizers, oxygen delivery systems, and various monitoring devices (ECG, pulse oximeter, capnography).
- Operation Theatre (OT) Protocols & Management: OT setup, safety protocols, waste management, handling of surgical instruments, and proper patient positioning for surgery.
- Patient Monitoring: Techniques for monitoring patients pre-operatively, intra-operatively, and post-operatively, including interpretation of vital signs and emergency alerts.
- Airway Management: Techniques for maintaining a patient's airway, including the use of endotracheal tubes, laryngoscopes, and suction apparatus.
Clinical and Practical Skills:
- Pre- and Post-Operative Care: Assisting in the preparation of patients before surgery and monitoring their recovery in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU).
- Emergency Management: Procedures for handling adverse reactions, shock, and cardiac arrest, including Basic Life Support (BLS) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
- Clinical Training/Internship: Hands-on experience in various hospital settings such as operation theatres, intensive care units (ICU), and emergency departments, working alongside anesthesiologists and surgical teams.
Professional Development
- Medical Ethics & Communication: Understanding the roles and responsibilities of an anesthesia technician, patient privacy, informed consent, and effective communication with the healthcare team and patients.
- Computer Skills: Basic computer literacy for record-keeping and data management.
Work in government and private hospitals in roles like a Senior Resident, Registrar, or Anesthesia Technician.
Secure positions in Intensive Care Units (ICUs), surgical units, or trauma centers.
Depending on the location, you can start an independent practice, especially in less competitive areas, or work as a visiting consultant.
