Course Overview:

               It’s a short-term certificate or a module within a broader diploma program focusing on the specific skills needed to manage a production line in the leather goods or footwear industry. It is not a standard, formal multi-year diploma course title. 

                  

Course responsibilities:-

Production Management

  • Planning and Organization: Establishing daily, weekly, and monthly production objectives and preparing work schedules and workflow.
  • Monitoring Production: Overseeing day-to-day production activities to ensure a smooth and efficient process and that production targets are met.
  • Resource Management: Managing the flow of materials, components, and equipment to prevent shortages and minimize downtime.
  • Problem Solving: Identifying and resolving production issues, bottlenecks, and inefficiencies. 

Quality and Safety

  • Quality Control: Overseeing quality control procedures to ensure finished products align with specifications and identifying defects on leather surfaces and components.
  • Health and Safety: Ensuring strict adherence to occupational health and safety regulations, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining a hazard-free work area. 

Staff Supervision

  • Training and Guidance: Guiding, coaching, and training new and existing production workers on machinery use, procedures, and quality standards.
  • Performance Management: Monitoring employee productivity, evaluating performance, and resolving worker problems or grievances.
  • Team Leadership: Fostering a positive and productive work environment and promoting teamwork and open communication. 

Administration and Reporting

  • Documentation: Preparing and maintaining production reports, records, and inventory documentation for management review.
  • Process Improvement: Advising others on ways to improve processes or products and implementing continuous improvement initiatives. 

 Course Curriculum Components:

Technical and practical components

  • Pre-training: Introduction to sewing machines, pre-operative sewing exercises, and finishing operations like inking, creasing, and binding.
  • Pattern design: Manual pattern making and the construction of different components.
  • Product making: The entire process of designing, pattern making, cutting, assembling, and stitching various leather goods like card cases, wallets, and bags.
  • Leather technology: Subjects on modern production technologies and the use of modern footwear design concepts.
  • Tannery and waste management: Studies on effluents treatment and waste management in tanneries.
  • Computer applications: Using computer-aided design (CAD) software for design and other applications in the leather industry. 

Management and supervisory components

  • Production planning: Scheduling production and allocating duties to workers.
  • Quality control: Supervising work to ensure it meets quality standards.
  • Costing and accounting: Estimating unit costs and maintaining production records.
  • Inventory management: Controlling the inventory of raw materials and chemicals.
  • Supervision and leadership: Managing a team to meet production targets and ensuring smooth functioning of the production line.
  • Labour management: Assisting in ensuring working conditions comply with labor laws and supervising welfare schemes.
  • Marketing: Assisting in the marketing of leather products.

  • Communication: Strong communication skills are essential for managing a team.
  • Safety: Emphasis on industrial safety, occupational hazards, and accident prevention.
  • Project work: A project to provide hands-on experience with industry practices.
  • Industrial training: A period of on-the-job training in a factory setting.
  • Entrepreneurship: Subjects on industrial management and entrepreneurship development.
  • Environmental awareness: Mandatory study of environmental impact and energy conservation
  •  Job opportunities: It offers job opportunities within the leather manufacturing industry, particularly in production, quality control, and general factory supervision
