Course Overview:
They perform inspection, installation and preventative maintenance of general clinical equipment, including appropriate documentation for all service activities and training the hospital staff. Personal Attributes.
Course Responsibilities:-
Installation and maintenance
- Install new medical equipment, ensuring it is set up correctly and calibrated.
- Perform regular inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure optimal performance and patient safety.
- Troubleshoot and repair medical equipment when malfunctions occur.
Staff training and support
- Train medical professionals on the proper use and basic troubleshooting of medical devices.
- Explain how to operate new equipment and answer staff questions.
- Provide technical information and support to clinical staff.
Record keeping and administrative tasks
- Maintain accurate and detailed service records for all maintenance, repairs, and calibrations.
- Keep records up to date and ensure compliance with hospital protocols and regulatory standards.
- Manage inventory, including assisting with purchasing and the distribution of medical equipment.
Safety and compliance
- Conduct safety tests to ensure equipment meets clinical and safety standards.
- Ensure all equipment complies with relevant healthcare regulations.
- Maintain a safe working environment and follow safety procedures.
Course Curriculum Components:
- Electrical and Electronic Fundamentals: Basic electricity, troubleshooting circuits, and working with electronic components using measuring instruments.
- Biomedical Equipment: Identifying, installing, testing, and operating specific equipment, such as phototherapy equipment, physiotherapy equipment, and medical gas plants.
- Maintenance and Repair: Performing preventative maintenance, calibration, and breakdown maintenance, including soldering and de-soldering of components.
- Safety and Procedures: Following safety protocols, maintaining a safe working environment, and understanding procedures like respiratory resuscitation.
- Quality Management: Implementing quality management systems, managing equipment logs, and handling complaints and adverse event reporting.
- User and Staff Training: Training hospital staff on how to use equipment properly and safely.
Additional skills and knowledge
- Computer and Communication: Basic computer skills (e.g., MS Office), effective communication strategies, and using visual aids.
- Regulatory Affairs: An understanding of medical device regulatory affairs and risk management, particularly in advanced programs.
- Hospital and Healthcare Operations: Procedures for equipment installation, warranty management, and record-keeping for maintenance and bills.
