Course Overview:-

  • Focus: Training in diagnostic imaging techniques and operating equipment for medical diagnosis
  • Key subjects: Human anatomy, radiology physics, imaging modalities (X-ray, CT, MRI, Ultrasound), radiation safety, and patient care
  • Practical experience: Includes hands-on training in hospital settings, learning about patient positioning, contrast media techniques, and infection control. 

 Course Responsibilities:-

  • Patient Care:

Explain procedures and safety measures to patients.Position patients correctly for imaging procedures.

Ensure patient comfort and alleviate concerns.

  • Equipment Operation:

Operate sophisticated imaging equipment, such as X-ray, CT, and MRI machines, based on radiologist instructions.

Adjust machine settings to optimize image quality.

  • Safety and Compliance:

Adhere to radiation safety protocols to minimize exposure for themselves, patients, and coworkers.

Handle emergency situations and their remedies within the radiology department.

  • Image Quality and Analysis:

Produce high-quality diagnostic images essential for diagnosis and treatment planning.

Monitor and maintain imaging equipment to ensure it is functioning correctly and safely.

  • Record Keeping:

Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including procedure type and radiation dose.

  • Collaboration:

Work closely with radiologists, doctors, and other medical professionals to discuss procedures and results. 

 Course Curriculum Components:-

Core theoretical components:

  • Anatomy and Physiology: In-depth study of the human body's structure and function, often with a focus on how it relates to imaging.
  • Radiation Physics: Principles of radiation, its production, and its interaction with matter.
  • Radiographic Techniques: The science of performing a wide range of radiographic procedures and positioning.
  • Radiation Protection and Safety: Measures to minimize radiation exposure to both the patient and the technologist.
  • Medical Imaging Equipment: Operation, maintenance, and quality control of equipment like X-ray machines, CT scanners, and MRI machines.
  • Patient Care and Management: Principles of patient communication, handling medical emergencies, and care during imaging procedures. 

Practical and hands-on components:

  • Darkroom and Processing Techniques: Learning the procedures for developing and processing traditional film or digital images.
  • Equipment Operation and Calibration: Gaining practical experience with diagnostic equipment and ensuring proper calibration.
  • Image Quality Assessment: Learning to evaluate and improve the quality of radiographic images.
  • Clinical Internship: Rotations in a hospital or clinic's radiology department to gain real-world experience with patients and procedures. 

Potential elective and advanced topics:

  • Computed Tomography (CT): Advanced imaging techniques using CT scanners.
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI): Principles and practice of MRI.
  • Mammography: Specialized techniques for breast imaging.
  • Ultrasound: Principles of diagnostic ultrasound.
  • Nuclear Medicine: Basic principles of using radioactive tracers for diagnosis.
  • Interventional Radiography: Procedures that use imaging guidance for minimally invasive treatments
  • Job Opportunities: Job Positions as an X-ray Technician, MRI Technologist, CT Scan Technologist, and Ultrasound Technician. Graduates can also find roles such as a Radiology Assistant, Imaging Technologist, or work in diagnostic labs and hospitals.
