Course Overview:

    These programs cover the skills needed for garment assembly, including understanding production systems, machinery, quality control, and efficient operations. Short-term Sewing Machine Operator Certificate Programs are also available, providing more focused, practical training. 

 

Course responsibilities:-

  • Operation: Operating specialized sewing machines like single-needle, overlock, and coverstitch machines to stitch fabric according to specifications.
  • Setup and adjustment: Setting up machines for different production runs, including tasks like threading, changing needles, and adjusting tension.
  • Quality control: Inspecting finished garments for defects such as loose threads or skipped stitches and ensuring products meet quality standards.
  • Maintenance: Performing routine maintenance on machinery, including cleaning and lubrication, to ensure optimal performance and prevent breakdowns.
  • Troubleshooting: Identifying and fixing minor issues to keep the production line running smoothly.
  • Safety: Following all safety guidelines, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintaining a clean and safe workspace.
  • Documentation: Recording production quantities, material usage, and any downtime or incidents.
  • Teamwork and communication: Working with team members, team leaders, and supervisors to achieve production goals and address any concerns.
  • Compliance: Adhering to all company policies, procedures, and quality standards. 

 Course Curriculum Components:

Theoretical Components

  • Garment manufacturing and materials: Understanding different types of fabrics and materials.
  • Specialized techniques: Specialized techniques for production, identifying seams, seam lines, and notches.
  • Machine operation: Working procedures for various sewing machines and their attachments, such as buttonhole, zipper, and hemming feet.
  • Quality control: Knowledge of quality control measures, identifying defects, and maintaining quality in stitching operations.
  • Safety and compliance: Adhering to safety standards, health, and security at the workplace, as well as industry and regulatory requirements.
  • Communication and collaboration: Working effectively with team members and other stakeholders. 

Practical Components

  • Machine operation and maintenance: Demonstrating the use of various machine attachments, replacing broken needles, and performing basic machine maintenance.
  • Stitching and assembly: Stitching components together using machines or by hand to produce a finished garment.
  • Preparation and setup: Preparing miniature garments and writing process specifications on sheets.
  • Quality assurance: Applying trims, checking for stitching defects, and maintaining a quality checking process.
  • Workplace organization: Maintaining a clean and organized work area, tools, and machines. 
  •  Job opportunities: Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering (or an ITI certification in relevant trades like Fitter or Electrician) and then gain work experience as an Assembly Line Operator. .
