Course Overview:- Course content includes public health principles, disease prevention, health promotion strategies, and communication techniques, drawing from subjects like anatomy, nutrition, and epidemiology.
Course Responsibilities:-
- Needs assessment: Evaluate and analyze the health needs of specific communities to identify areas for intervention.
- Program development and implementation: Design, manage, and execute health promotion and education programs. This includes planning, implementing, and evaluating interventions to bring about health behavior changes.
- Education and communication: Teach individuals and groups about health and wellness through workshops, one-on-one counseling, and the development of educational tools for various media.
- Community engagement: Work with individuals, families, and communities to build capacity, organize groups, and foster participation in health initiatives.
- Advocacy: Advocate for public health policies and create a supportive environment for social and health-related changes at different levels.
- Collaboration: Consult with other professionals, such as physicians, educators, and medical centers, to improve health services.
- Data analysis and evaluation: Collect and analyze data to inform future programs and services and evaluate the effectiveness of existing ones.
Course Curriculum Components:-
- Foundational Sciences: Health and hygiene, basic sciences, nutrition, and environmental sanitation.
- Social and Behavioral Sciences: Behavioral and social sciences, population dynamics, family welfare, and health legislation.
- Health Promotion and Education: Health promotion education, community organization, communication methods, and educational theories.
- Research and Policy: Research methods, statistics, epidemiology, and health policies and programs.
Practical and applied components
- Fieldwork: Hands-on experience through supervised field training in community settings to identify, plan, and evaluate health education activities.
- Project Work: A project report, often based on field-level exercises, to apply learned concepts in a real-world scenario.
- Training and Workshops: Practical training in communication, counseling, and management techniques through methods like role-plays and surveys.
- Program Implementation: Developing, implementing, and evaluating health promotion and education programs in various settings like hospitals, NGOs, schools, and government health departments.
- Job Opportunities: Health Educator, Public Health Officer, Wellness Coach, and Program Coordinator
