Course Overview:-

               A diploma in medical administrative assistant is a program that trains students to work in healthcare settings like hospitals, clinics, and doctors’ offices. As a medical assistant, you’ll help doctors and nurses with both administrative tasks (like scheduling appointments) and clinical tasks (like taking patients’ vital signs).

 

   

 

Course Responsibilities:-

  • Patient care: Greet patients, take medical histories, record vital signs (like blood pressure, temperature, and pulse), and explain treatment procedures to patients.
  • Assisting physicians: Help with patient examinations, prepare patients for exams, and provide direct assistance as directed by a doctor or nurse.
  • Procedures: Collect and prepare laboratory specimens, draw blood, remove sutures, change dressings, and care for wounds.
  • Diagnostic tests: Perform basic diagnostic tests like EKGs, prepare patients for X-rays, and sterilize medical instruments.
  • Medication administration: Prepare and administer medications as directed, authorize drug refills, and telephone prescriptions to pharmacies.

  • Anatomy and Physiology: Study of the structure and function of the human body.
  • Medical Terminology: Learning the language of medicine, including prefixes, suffixes, and roots.
  • Phlebotomy: Techniques for drawing blood.
  • EKG (Electrocardiogram): How to perform and assist with EKGs.
  • Infection Control: Principles and practices for preventing the spread of infection.
  • Pharmacology: Basic principles of drugs, their classifications, and administration.
  • Clinical Patient Care: Practical skills needed to assist patients in clinical settings. 

Administrative and office components:

  • Medical Coding and Billing: Understanding how to code medical procedures and handle billing and insurance claims.
  • Record Keeping: Maintaining and updating patient medical histories, treatment plans, and other records.
  • Patient Scheduling and Management: Coordinating appointments and managing the front desk.
  • Office Administration: General administrative tasks related to a healthcare setting. 

 

  • Job Opportunities: Roles in hospitals, clinics, doctor's offices, and specialized settings like nursing homes. Common positions are Medical Assistant, Healthcare Assistant, and Clinical Assistant.
