Course Overview:
The curriculum covers both technical skills, such as working on engine, brake, and electrical systems, and soft skills like communication and organization.
Course Responsibilities:-
- Diagnosis and repair:
- Use diagnostic tools to identify mechanical and electrical problems.
- Repair and replace worn parts, such as brake pads, wheel bearings, and other aggregates.
- Disassemble and reassemble vehicle parts.
- Troubleshoot issues like engine overheating, excessive smoke, and abnormal noises.
- Routine maintenance:
- Perform scheduled and paid maintenance, including oil changes, tire rotations, and fluid checks.
- Lubricate and grease components as needed.
- Customer service:
- Communicate with customers to explain vehicle problems and repair requirements.
- Provide estimates for repairs and explain the work performed.
- Technical skills:
- Perform electrical testing and repair, including battery testing and charging.
- Overhaul major systems like engines, transmissions, and suspension systems.
- Identify and interpret vehicle specifications, including VIN and service data.
- Operational and safety:
- Maintain a clean and safe work area and adhere to safety regulations.
- Keep track of parts inventory and order replacements when necessary.
- Complete paperwork for repair orders and warranties.
Course Curriculum components:
- Engine Systems: Dismantling, overhauling, assembling, servicing, and troubleshooting of two-stroke and four-stroke Spark Ignition (SI) and Compression Ignition (CI) engines. This includes components like the cylinder head, piston assembly, crankshaft, and valve train.
- Fuel Systems: Maintenance and servicing of carburetors and modern fuel injection (FI) systems, as well as overhauling LPG/CNG fuel systems.
- Transmission Systems: Overhauling and maintenance of manual and automatic clutch and gearbox systems, including propeller shafts, joints, and differentials.
- Braking Systems: Theory and practical application of servicing and overhauling drum and disc brake systems.
- Steering and Suspension: Repair and overhaul of steering and suspension components for both two and three-wheelers, including front fork assembly, shock absorbers, and steering play adjustments.
- Electrical and Electronic Systems: Basics of electricity, constructing and testing electrical circuits, battery maintenance and charging, testing electrical components, and understanding ignition and charging systems.
- Wheels and Tyres: Maintenance of wheels, puncture repair, tyre changing, and wheel truing.
- Cooling and Lubrication Systems: Knowledge of cooling system components (e.g., radiator) and the use and disposal of various lubricants and oils.
General Workshop Practices & Allied Subjects
- Safety and Housekeeping: Adherence to general and specific safety regulations, use of personal protective equipment, fire extinguishers, and implementation of 5S techniques in the workshop environment.
- Tools and Equipment: Identification, selection, care, and use of various hand tools, machine tools, measuring instruments (e.g., multimeters, gauges), and service station equipment.
- Basic Engineering Skills: Measuring and marking operations, basic fastening and fitting, surface finishing, and joining components using arc and gas welding.
- Technical Documentation: Reading and interpreting service manuals, circuit diagrams, and vehicle specification data (e.g., VIN).
Soft Skills & Modern Topics
- Communication & Customer Service: Skills for effective communication with customers and co-workers, understanding customer needs, and building relationships.
- Modern Vehicle Technology: Updates on current industry standards such as BS6 emission norms, maintenance of electric two and three-wheelers, and use of diagnostic equipment.
- Employability Skills: General skills related to the work environment such as teamwork, time management, and environmental regulations.
- Job Opportunities: Undertake maintenance, servicing a vehicle and repair activities on motor vehicles to the highest standard as the Vehicle Technician. Set of tools for vehicle repairs.
