Course Overview:
An EMT Course trains individuals in handling medical emergencies, performing CPR, using defibrillators, managing trauma cases, and stabilizing patients during transport. After completing the course, EMTs can work in ambulances, hospitals, fire departments, and disaster response teams.
Course Responsibilities:-
Patient assessment and care
- Assess patient conditions to determine the severity of injuries or illness.
- Provide immediate emergency medical care, including first aid, administering oxygen, and controlling bleeding.
- Perform life-saving interventions such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use automated external defibrillators (AED).
- Manage patient airways, treat trauma, and stabilize patients using devices like splints and cervical collars.
- Assist in other situations, such as emergency childbirth.
Course Curriculum components:
Foundational and theoretical components
- Basic Sciences: Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, and Microbiology
- Medical Terminology and Ethics: Understanding medical terms and the ethical and legal aspects of emergency care
- Emergency Medicine Fundamentals: Introduction to the field of emergency medicine and basic healthcare concepts
Core emergency skills and procedures
- Life Support: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), including CPR and AED usage
- Patient Assessment: Patient assessment and triage, vital signs, and taking a SAMPLE history
- Pharmacology: The use and administration of drugs in emergency settings
- Wound Care: First aid and wound care procedures
Specialized emergency scenarios
- Medical Emergencies: Managing cardiac, respiratory, and other common medical emergencies
- Trauma Emergencies: Principles of trauma management
- Pediatric and Obstetric Emergencies: Specific care for infants, children, and obstetric patients
- Environmental and Disaster Emergencies: Responding to environmental hazards and disasters
- Other Specialties: Toxicology, infectious diseases, and ICU/post-operative care
Practical and operational components
- Clinical and Practical Training: Hands-on experience in emergency settings
- Equipment Handling: Training on the use of emergency medical equipment
- Ambulance Operations: Safety and operational procedures for ambulances
- Psychological Aspects: Understanding the psychological impact of emergency care on patients and providers
- Infection Control: Procedures for infection control and waste management
- Other Skills: ECG interpretation, intubation, ventilator support, and ABG analysis
- Job opportunities: Day-to-day duties and tasks involve: working as part of an ambulance crew responding to emergency (999) and urgent calls. providing emergency and urgent assistance. driving safely and progressively at high speed.
