Course Overview:-

      A pharmacy assistant, also known as a pharmacy technician or pharmacy aide, is a vital member of the healthcare team who works under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. 

Their primary role is to support the efficient functioning of a pharmacy and assist in the dispensing of medications.

      Pharmacy assistants perform a variety of tasks, including receiving and processing prescription orders, measuring and packaging medications, maintaining inventory, and providing customer service. 

 Course Responsibilities:-

  • Assist in dispensing medications under the supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Receive and process prescription orders from customers or healthcare professionals.
  • Measure, count, and package medications accurately.
  • Prepare labels for medication containers.
  • Maintain inventory of medications and supplies.
  • Monitor stock levels and place orders for replenishment.
  • Check the expiration dates of medications and remove expired stock.
  • Provide excellent customer service, answering inquiries and assisting customers.
  • Handle cash transactions and operate the cash register.
  • Maintain patient records and update relevant information.
  • File insurance claims and handle paperwork related to prescriptions.
  • Assist with the compounding of medications, as needed.
  • Use and maintain pharmacy equipment and technology.
  • Adhere to pharmacy regulations, ethical standards, and patient confidentiality.

 

 Course Curriculum Components:-

Practical and operational skills 

  • Dispensing: Practical skills in interpreting prescriptions, filling them accurately, and labeling medications.
  • Inventory Management: Learning how to manage and maintain stock in a pharmacy setting.
  • Patient Interaction: Includes patient counseling, communication skills, and customer service.
  • Compounding: May include basic compounding and aseptic techniques.
  • Pharmacy Operations: Understanding the day-to-day operations of a pharmacy

 

  • Job opportunities:  job opportunities in retail, hospital, and community settings, including roles like pharmacy assistant, medical store executive, hospital pharmacy assistant, and pharmaceutical sales representative. Graduates can also find roles in inventory management, clinical support, and administrative positions within healthcare facilities and the pharmaceutical industry.
