Course Overview:

      The curriculum covers subjects like anatomy, physiology, naturopathic therapies, and yoga, preparing graduates for roles as assistants, therapists, or consultants in wellness centers and hospitals. Students interested in broader healthcare support roles can also explore the General Duty Assistant Course

Course Responsibilities:-

Patient and Treatment Assistance

  • Assisting with Procedures: Carrying out pre-procedural requirements and assisting during various naturopathic procedures as prescribed by the supervising practitioner. 
  • Therapy Application: Performing hands-on natural therapies, which can include:
    • Hydrotherapy (water treatments).
    • Mud therapy.
    • Magneto and Chromotherapy (color therapy).
    • Acupressure and massage procedures.
  • Yoga and Exercise Support: Assisting the yoga instructor or doctor with yoga sessions, demonstrations of asanas, pranayama (breathing exercises), and meditation techniques.
  • Patient Education Support: Assisting in educating patients about healthy lifestyle habits, diet modifications, stress reduction techniques, and self-care strategies.
  • Monitoring Progress: Offering follow-up support to monitor patient progress and gathering feedback for the supervising practitioner. Many patient monitoring and education responsibilities are also included in the nursing assistant course.

Clinical and Administrative Duties

  • Work Area Management: Preparing the treatment areas, ensuring they are clean, safe, and well-stocked with the necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Hygiene and Safety: Maintaining a safe and secure working environment and adhering to biomedical waste disposal and infection control policies.
  • Record Keeping: Managing and maintaining accurate client and financial records and ensuring confidentiality.
  • Interpersonal Relations: Maintaining professional conduct and positive interpersonal relationships with clients and the healthcare team.
  • Basic Administration: Performing general business administration tasks and potentially assisting with marketing content for the practice or center. 

Course Curriculum Components:

Foundational Sciences :-

  • Anatomy and Physiology: Study of the structure and function of the human body, its organ systems, cells, and tissues.
  • Pathology and Microbiology: Understanding the nature of diseases, their causes, diagnostic methods, and the role of microorganisms in health and illness.
  • Biochemistry and Nutrition: The study of the chemical processes in the body, the importance of a balanced diet, natural food, and the effects of food adulteration and pollutants. 

Core Naturopathic Principles and Therapies

  • Philosophy and Fundamentals of Naturopathy: Principles of natural healing, the five elements, the body's natural ability to heal itself, and the difference between health and disease.
  • Hydrotherapy: Principles and practical applications of water for treatment, including hip baths, sitz baths, spinal baths, steam baths, and hot/cold compresses.
  • Mud Therapy: Properties of mud and its therapeutic applications through various mud packs and full mud baths.
  • Diet and Fasting Therapy: The role of diet in nature cure, types of diets (eliminative, soothing, constructive), the physiology of fasting, and management of patients during a fast.
  • Chromotherapy and Magnetotherapy: The therapeutic properties of colors and light, and the use of magnets and magnetised water/oils in treatment. 

Related Therapies and Practices:-

  • Yoga and Yogic Sciences: Study of yogic philosophy, major yogic texts, and practical training in asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), meditation, and shatkarma (cleansing techniques).
  • Massage and Manipulative Therapies: Techniques for applying pressure, massage, and other physical methods to treat musculoskeletal issues and improve circulation.
  • Acupressure and Acupuncture (Basic): Introduction to the principles, meridians, and points used in acupressure and acupuncture for managing various ailments.
  • Herbal Medicine (Introduction): Basic knowledge of identifying, preparing, and applying herbs for therapeutic benefits. 

Clinical and Professional Skills

  • First Aid and Emergency Care: Basic first aid principles for managing emergencies like fractures, burns, shock, and common medical situations.
  • Patient Management: History taking, case sheet writing, diagnostic methods (e.g., iris and facial diagnosis), and developing personalised healthcare strategies.For those interested in clinical sample collection or lab diagnostics, the phlebotomy technician course provides focused training.
  • Professional Ethics and Conduct: Duties and behavior of a naturopathy assistant, maintaining a safe working environment, record keeping, and biomedical waste disposal policies.
  • Internship/Practical Training: Supervised hands-on training in hospitals, wellness centers, or clinics to gain real-world experience.

Job opportunities: Job opportunities are available in both the public and private sectors, with options for employment in wellness centers, hospitals, and private clinics. Students interested in diagnostic or lab-based healthcare support may also consider the medical lab technician course.
