Course Overview:

             It’s a vocational training program that teaches the skills needed to assess and ensure the quality of garments throughout the production process, covering topics like fabric analysis, stitching techniques, and defect identification.

 

 

Course Responsibilities:-

  • Design and pattern development: Creating or modifying embroidery patterns and designing for specific products or customers.
  • Execution of embroidery: Performing hand or machine embroidery using different stitches, colors, and embellishments like beads and sequins.
  • Quality control: Ensuring that the final embroidery is aesthetically pleasing, functional, and meets quality standards and customer requirements.
  • Technical maintenance: Operating, setting up, and maintaining embroidery machines, which includes programming them and troubleshooting mechanical issues.
  • Production management: Overseeing the production process, from design to finished product, to ensure efficiency, meet deadlines, and manage workflows.
  • Workplace safety: Maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by keeping the work area, tools, and machines clean and organized.
  • Material management: Organizing and selecting appropriate materials, threads, and techniques for different fabrics and designs. 

 Course Curriculum components:

I. Fundamental Knowledge and Techniques

  • Introduction to Embroidery: Overview of embroidery as a craft and industry, including its history and various applications.
  • Tools and Materials: Identification, selection, and safe use of different threads (silk, cotton, metallic, etc.), needles, fabrics, frames/hoops, scissors, and embellishments like beads, sequins, and cords.
  • Basic Stitches: Learning and practicing a wide range of fundamental hand embroidery stitches (e.g., running stitch, backstitch, stem stitch, chain stitch, satin stitch, French knots, etc.).
  • Hand Embroidery Techniques: Executing various hand embroidery styles and work types, which may include:
    • Traditional styles (Kantha, Chikankari, Phulkari, Kasuti, Zardozi, Aari, Jari).
    • Specialized techniques (Appliqué work, Cut work, Eyelet work, Smocking, Ribbon embroidery).
  • Machine Embroidery (Often a specialization):
    • Operating and maintaining different types of embroidery machines (manual, semi-automatic, computerized).
    • Threading the machine, bobbin maintenance, needle selection, and tension adjustment.
    • Troubleshooting common machine problems. 

 

 

 

 

 

II. Design and Creativity

  • Design Principles: Understanding elements of design such as line, form, color, texture, and pattern.
  • Color Theory: Principles of color combinations and schemes suitable for different fabrics and designs.
  • Design Development:
    • Creating and modifying embroidery patterns.
    • Tracing and transferring designs onto fabric using various methods.
    • Customizing designs for different garments and textiles (sarees, blouses, T-shirts, home décor items).
  • Computer-Aided Design (CAD) (for computerized courses): Using embroidery software to create, edit, digitize, and transfer designs to a computerized embroidery machine. 

III. Professional and Employability Skills

  • Quality Control: Techniques for achieving quality in embroidery work and identifying/correcting defects.
  • Workplace Safety and Maintenance: Following safety instructions and maintaining a clean and safe work environment, including proper care and oiling of equipment.
  • Production and Costing: Estimating material costs and pricing embroidered articles.
  • Entrepreneurship/Boutique Management: Skills for starting a small business, including marketing, inventory management, and client consultation.
  • Project Work & Internship: Applying learned skills in real-world scenarios through practical projects or on-job training

 Job opportunities:

        Job opportunities in  fashion, textile, and home décor industries, as well as entrepreneurial and educational paths.
