Course Overview:

Course Responsibilities:-
- Operating equipment: Safely operate and monitor a variety of machinery, including washers, dryers, and dry-cleaning machines. This involves setting cycles, adding correct amounts of soaps and chemicals, and turning valves and levers to regulate processes.
- Processing laundry: Sort laundry by fabric, color, and stain type; load and unload machines; and fold, wrap, or hang finished items.
- Stain removal: Identify stains and apply appropriate solvents or bleaching agents to remove them.
- Inspecting and quality control: Inspect items for damage, tears, or wear, and ensure they meet the establishment's quality standards before being returned.
- Maintenance and cleaning: Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of laundry machinery, including cleaning filters and lubricating equipment. Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
Course Curriculum components:
- Introduction to the Laundry and Dry Cleaning Industry: Overview of the sector, its history, different types of operations (on-premises, off-site), and career opportunities.
- Understanding Fabrics and Garment Care:
- Fabric Identification and Properties: Learning to identify different textiles like cotton, wool, silk, polyester, and their unique characteristics.
- Care Label Interpretation: Understanding and following international care symbols and manufacturer guidelines.
- Colorfastness and Shrinkage: Methods for testing and preventing color bleeding and fabric shrinkage.
- Stain Removal Techniques:
- Stain Identification: Classifying various stains (oil-based, protein-based, water-based, etc.).
- Chemical and Natural Methods: Safe and effective use of specific chemicals, detergents, bleaches, and solvents for different stains.
- Spotting: Techniques for pre-treatment and post-spotting stubborn stains.
- Washing and Dry Cleaning Processes:
- Laundry Workflow: The complete process cycle including collection, sorting, washing, drying, ironing, folding, and delivery.
- Wet Cleaning vs. Dry Cleaning: Understanding the differences and applications of both methods.
- Dry Cleaning Solvents: Knowledge of various solvents (e.g., perchloroethylene, hydrocarbon) and their safe handling and disposal.
- Washing Parameters: Selecting appropriate water levels, temperatures, and washing cycles for different fabric types.
- Drying, Ironing, and Finishing Techniques:
- Drying Methods: Proper use of industrial dryers and understanding heat settings.
- Pressing and Steaming: Techniques for effective use of steam presses, vacuum tables, and hand irons to achieve a quality finish.
- Finishing and Packaging: Folding, hanging, and packaging garments for wrinkle-free delivery and professional presentation.
- Equipment Handling and Maintenance:
- Machine Operation: Hands-on training with commercial washers, dryers, and pressing machines.
- Routine Maintenance: Basic troubleshooting and preventive maintenance to ensure longevity and efficiency of equipment.
Health, Safety, and Professional Skills
- Safety and Health Regulations: Adhering to safety protocols, handling chemicals safely, using personal protective equipment, and ensuring proper ventilation.
- Hygiene and Sanitation: Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in the work environment and handling contaminated or infected linen properly (especially in hospitality/healthcare settings).
- Quality Control: Implementing checks and procedures to ensure high-quality results and prevent garment damage.
- Customer Service: Communication skills, handling customer complaints, managing guest expectations, and maintaining professionalism and etiquette.
- Workflow Optimization: Managing high volume operations efficiently and implementing standard operating procedures (SOPs)
